Historic Impact

City of 72 Names is based on true history. Three of the Levy siblings are composites but Morris Coen is real. Through these four Jews, we learn of the enormous impact of Judaism on world events in the 20th Century and the repercussions of hatred. The goals of Judaism permeate these assimilated Jews: To bring justice and love to the world. This is their story.

History— China (1906-1920)
The history of the military and cultural events that lead to the overthrew of the last Qing emperor, set up the era of warlords and finally pitted Communists again nationalists during the first two decades of the 20th century.
History — Israel (1906-1920)
Historical events during the downfall of the Ottoman Empire and the Second Aliyah (the immigration of predominantly Russian Jews), the formation of the Kibbutz movement, the expulsion of the Russian Jews by the Ottomans at the start of WWI; the formation and military education of the Jews who eventually would fight for Israel independence, and the development of the unique culture of Israelis who were embattled by Arab violence instigated by their imams.
History—Russia (1906-1920)
Russian history at the end of WWI and even back to Tzar Alexander’s freeing of the serfs in the 1870s was affected by extreme stratification of society along with the ineffectiveness of Tzar Nicholas II who cracked down on protestors and instigated violent pogroms against the Jews who were isolated into an area of Ukraine called The Pale. Ending WWI lead to the abdication of the Tzar and a vicious civil war between groups who were loyal to different political philosophies: Menshevik, Bolshevik and White Russian.

Jewish mobsters ruled most of the large cities of America as the Roaring Twenties brought wealth and strikes as well as the formation of syndicalist trade unions and unrest.
History — Israel (1920s and 30s)
The development of kibbutz life and protective organizations under the British Mandatory Palestine. Arab unrest and Jewish terrorism.
History— China (1920s and 30s)
Chinese republican army overthrows the Qing Emperor leading to the era of Warlords as well as the Japanese takeover of Manchuria.
History—Russia (1920s and 30s)
The death of Lenin in 1924 and the show trials and purges under Stalin lead to famine as well as industrialization and collectivism.
